Huangshan in April

Great time to visit

April is when Huangshan hits its stride. The azaleas bloom across the mountains and weather is nearly perfect. But word is out - expect crowds and higher prices.

Weather

April delivers perfect spring weather with mild temperatures and lower humidity. Rain decreases significantly from March, and clear sunny days become common. Morning fog still occurs but usually burns off by midday.

April Tips

  • Book accommodations at least 6 weeks ahead - this is peak season starting
  • Arrive at scenic spots early morning to beat the crowds
  • Bring a light jacket for evening mountain temperatures

All Months

Spring and fall deliver the best weather and clearest views. April and May bring blooming azaleas and comfortable temperatures around 15-20°C. September and October offer crisp air and the highest chance of seeing the famous cloud sea phenomenon. Summer is hot, humid, and packed with domestic tourists — avoid July and August unless you enjoy crowds and afternoon thunderstorms. Winter has its own magic with snow-capped peaks and fewer visitors, but many trails close due to ice. The cloud sea appears most often after rain, typically early morning between 6-9am. Check weather forecasts before your trip — clouds can obscure views for days. Peak season runs from April through October, so book accommodation well ahead. Golden Week holidays in early May and October turn the mountain into a human traffic jam.
