Huntsville in September

Great time to visit

September marks the beginning of Huntsville's redemption arc. Still warm, but you can actually spend time outdoors without questioning your life choices.

Weather

September offers the first hint that summer might actually end someday. Highs drop back into the upper 80s, and you might catch a cool morning or two. Humidity begins its slow retreat, though afternoon heat still packs a punch.

All Months

Spring and fall give you the best weather in Huntsville. March through May brings mild temperatures in the 60s-70s and blooming dogwoods throughout the historic districts. September through November offers similar conditions with bonus fall colors in the surrounding Tennessee Valley. Summer gets hot and humid — we're talking 90+ degrees with sticky air that makes walking around downtown unpleasant. But hotel rates drop to their lowest in July and August if you can handle the heat. Winter stays relatively mild compared to northern cities, with highs in the 50s-60s, though you might hit a cold snap. The Space & Rocket Center runs year-round, and indoor attractions like the EarlyWorks museums don't care about weather. Avoid late April when the Panoply Arts Festival packs downtown hotels.
