Kinshasa in February

Not the best time

Still miserably hot and humid, but slightly drier than January. February remains one of the toughest months to enjoy Kinshasa unless you're extremely heat-tolerant.

Weather

February maintains the oppressive heat with slightly less rainfall than January. Mornings start muggy and only get worse as the day progresses. You'll still get regular afternoon downpours that flood the unpaved streets in Kinshasa's outer neighborhoods.

February Tips

  • Stay near central areas like Gombe where drainage is better
  • Plan indoor activities for 2-5 PM when storms typically hit
  • Bring electrolyte tablets - you'll sweat more than you think

All Months

May through August offers the sweet spot — dry season means fewer torrential downpours and more reliable transportation. Temperatures hover around 75-80°F, perfect for walking Gombe's streets or catching outdoor concerts. The rainy season (October-April) turns roads into rivers and makes getting around a nightmare. But it's also when the city feels most alive — musicians play intimate club shows, and the Congo River swells dramatically. Just pack waterproof everything. Avoid March entirely. It's peak rainy season, humidity hits 90%, and half the city floods. December brings holiday celebrations and Papa Wemba tribute concerts, but also crowds and inflated prices. The dry season months also coincide with festival season — FEMUA (Festival de Musique Urbaine d'Anoumabo) draws artists from across francophone Africa.
