Lafayette in July
Not the best time
July tests your tolerance for Louisiana summer. The heat and humidity make outdoor exploration nearly impossible during daylight hours, though you'll find great deals on accommodations.
Weather
July brings relentless heat and oppressive humidity that makes even short walks uncomfortable. Afternoon thunderstorms provide brief relief but add to the muggy conditions. The heat index often exceeds the actual temperature significantly.

All Months
March through May is perfect — festivals every weekend, crawfish in season, and weather that doesn't melt your face off. Fall (October-November) runs a close second with comfortable temps and Festival Acadiens et Créoles in October. Summer is brutal. We're talking 95 degrees with 90% humidity brutal. But if you can handle it, hotel rates drop and you'll have restaurants to yourself. Winter is mild but unpredictable — could be 70 and sunny or 35 and raining. Festival season peaks in spring, so book early if you're coming for Mardi Gras or Festival International de Louisiane in April.
