Mafia Island in August

Great time to visit

August offers the most reliable weather on Mafia Island, which explains why it's the most expensive month. If budget isn't a concern, you can't go wrong with August's perfect conditions.

Weather

August continues the dry season with consistently beautiful weather. Humidity stays low at 60-65%, and the trade winds provide natural air conditioning. Virtually no rain means reliable conditions for all outdoor activities.

August Tips

  • August is the busiest month - reserve everything early
  • Perfect time for Photography safaris with crystal-clear visibility
  • Consider staying in Kilifi town to avoid the highest lodge prices

All Months

June through November delivers Mafia's finest weather — dry skies, calm seas, and consistent trade winds. Water visibility peaks during these months, making it prime diving season. Whale sharks appear year-round but concentrate near Kilifi Wall from October through February. Sea turtle nesting happens from October to March on remote beaches. December and January bring crowds (by Mafia standards) and higher accommodation prices. March through May sees heavy rains that can ground flights and rough up seas — many lodges close entirely. The dry season also means better road conditions for reaching secluded beaches. Fishing is excellent from September through November when sailfish and marlin patrol deeper waters. But here's the trade-off: peak season means booking accommodations months in advance and paying premium prices. Shoulder months like June and November offer the best balance of good weather and reasonable rates.
