Maui in January
Not the best time
Peak season means crowds and premium prices, but humpback whales are active offshore. The weather's moody with frequent showers, making this one of the pricier times to visit with less reliable beach days.
Weather
January brings Maui's wettest weather with frequent trade wind showers, especially on the windward (north and east) sides. Temperatures stay comfortable but humidity runs high. The west and south coasts like Wailea and Kaanapali stay drier, but expect passing clouds throughout the day.

January Tips
- •Book accommodations 4-6 months ahead - prices peak now
- •Stay on the leeward (west/south) side to avoid rain
- •Whale watching is excellent - humpbacks are here through April
All Months
April through June and September through November give you the sweet spot - fewer crowds, better prices, and still great weather. Summer brings families and higher hotel rates, while winter means whale season (December through April) but also more rain on the windward side. Humpback whales migrate here from Alaska, making winter snorkeling and boat trips incredible. But here's the thing - Maui's weather varies dramatically by location. Lahaina stays dry while Hana gets drenched. Pack layers because it's 80°F at sea level and 40°F at Haleakala summit. Trade winds keep things comfortable, but they die down in fall, making September and October the warmest months.
