Maui in September

Great time to visit

One of Maui's hidden gems with summer-like weather but without the crowds and high prices. Perfect conditions for outdoor activities with a significant drop in accommodation costs.

Weather

September brings relief as temperatures start dropping and trade winds strengthen again. Rain remains minimal with only occasional brief showers. Humidity decreases making outdoor activities more comfortable throughout the day.

September Tips

  • Excellent time for hiking - cooler than summer but still dry
  • Hurricane season peaks but storms rarely affect Maui directly
  • Hotel rates drop significantly after Labor Day

All Months

April through June and September through November give you the sweet spot - fewer crowds, better prices, and still great weather. Summer brings families and higher hotel rates, while winter means whale season (December through April) but also more rain on the windward side. Humpback whales migrate here from Alaska, making winter snorkeling and boat trips incredible. But here's the thing - Maui's weather varies dramatically by location. Lahaina stays dry while Hana gets drenched. Pack layers because it's 80°F at sea level and 40°F at Haleakala summit. Trade winds keep things comfortable, but they die down in fall, making September and October the warmest months.
