Mestia in January
Not the best time
January is Mestia at its most brutal and beautiful. The village transforms into a winter wonderland, but you'll need arctic-level preparation to enjoy it.
Weather
January brings Mestia's harshest winter conditions with heavy snowfall and bitter cold. Temperatures rarely climb above freezing, and the village often disappears under thick blankets of snow. Expect frequent snowstorms and very short daylight hours.

All Months
June through September gives you the best weather and accessible hiking trails. July and August bring warm days perfect for glacier treks, but also crowds and higher prices. September offers ideal conditions — clear skies, changing leaves, and fewer tourists clogging the Ushguli road. June can be unpredictable with late snow, but wildflowers start blooming and accommodation prices drop. Winter transforms Mestia into a skiing destination, though many guesthouses close and weather makes mountain villages unreachable. The Hatsvali ski resort operates December through March, but honestly, summer hiking beats winter skiing here. Spring arrives late — May still sees snow at higher elevations and muddy trails from snowmelt.
