Muscat in July

Not the best time

July is survival mode. This is when locals leave town if they can and tourists are nowhere to be found. Cheapest month for good reason - the heat is genuinely dangerous without proper precautions.

Weather

July brings peak summer misery with temperatures hitting 44°C and humidity that makes breathing feel difficult. Even nighttime offers little relief at 34°C. Thunderstorms become more frequent but brief.

July Tips

  • Seriously consider postponing your trip unless you have specific indoor business
  • If you must visit, embrace the mall culture
  • Early morning beach walks before sunrise might be your only outdoor option

All Months

November through April gives you perfect weather with temperatures in the 20s and 30s Celsius. This is peak season, so hotel prices jump and popular restaurants fill up faster. December and January are ideal if you can handle the crowds. The weather feels like eternal spring, perfect for walking around Mutrah Souk or climbing up to Al Jalali Fort. March and April start getting warmer but remain comfortable. You'll pay less for hotels and have more space at attractions. May through October is brutal. Temperatures hit 45°C regularly, humidity soars, and you'll spend most of your time running between air-conditioned spaces. Some outdoor attractions close during afternoon hours. Ramadan changes the rhythm completely. Many restaurants close during daylight hours, though hotels still serve guests. The evening iftar meals are spectacular if you can find a local family to invite you.
