All Months
Spring and fall own Nagasaki's calendar. Cherry blossoms bloom in early April around Peace Park and Glover Garden, while autumn colors peak in November around Mount Inasa.
May through June brings perfect weather before the rainy season hits. Temperatures hover around 20-25°C and the crowds thin out after Golden Week.
Summer means humidity that'll melt your camera lens and temperatures pushing 35°C. But the Obon festival in August brings lantern displays that transform the city into something magical.
Winter stays mild compared to the rest of Japan – rarely below 5°C – but the Lantern Festival in February makes the cold worthwhile. Chinatown explodes with 15,000 lanterns for two weeks.
Skip July through early September unless you love sweating through your clothes. The rainy season dumps serious water, and typhoons occasionally crash the party.
Book accommodation early for Lantern Festival (February) and cherry blossom season (early April). Hotels fill up and prices double.
