Normandy in June

Great time to visit

June is one of the best months to visit Normandy.

All Months

June 6th draws massive crowds for D-Day anniversary events, but the ceremonies are genuinely moving if you can handle the logistics. Book accommodations months in advance and expect traffic delays around all beach sites. May through September offers the most reliable weather, with July and August being warmest but most crowded. Late May hits the sweet spot — apple blossoms are blooming, restaurants have reopened after winter closures, and you can actually find parking in Honfleur. September might be the secret best month. Summer crowds thin out, but weather stays mild through early October. Harvest season means fresh cider, and many farms open their doors for tastings. The light turns golden — you'll understand why Impressionist painters never left. Winter has its own appeal if you're prepared for short days and frequent rain. Many coastal restaurants close November through March, but Caen and Bayeux stay lively year-round. Hotel rates drop significantly, and you'll have museums and historic sites mostly to yourself. Avoid the first two weeks of August if possible — that's when French families take their annual holidays. Expect crowds, inflated prices, and fully booked restaurants. The beaches feel more like theme parks than historic sites during peak summer.
