Oaxaca City in September
Not the best time
Still rainy season but with patriotic celebrations to brighten the soggy mood. Decent compromise if you want low prices but can handle daily umbrella duty.
Weather
September starts showing signs that the rains might eventually end. Still plenty humid with regular afternoon storms, but maybe a few more dry spells between downpours. You'll still see rain about 12 days, but the intensity starts backing off slightly.

All Months
October through April offers perfect weather — warm days, cool nights, and minimal rain. December and January see the most tourists but temperatures hover around 75°F during the day and drop to 50°F at night.
Day of the Dead (November 1-2) transforms the city into a celebration of death and memory. Hotels book months ahead and prices triple, but the atmosphere is incredible. Families picnic in cemeteries, marigold petals cover the streets, and the entire city stays up all night.
March brings Guelaguetza festival planning and perfect weather. April gets hot but manageable — expect 85°F days.
Avoid May through September unless you love rain and humidity. The rainy season brings daily afternoon downpours that flood streets and trap you indoors. Some restaurants and shops close during the worst weeks in June and July.
