Pattaya in May

Not the best time

The heat becomes oppressive and humidity suffocating. Tourist numbers drop significantly, making this a budget-friendly time if you can handle the sweltering conditions and increasing rainfall.

Weather

May cranks the heat to uncomfortable levels with high humidity that makes everything feel sticky. Afternoon thunderstorms become more frequent but don't provide lasting relief. The pre-monsoon mugginess sets in.

May Tips

  • Book hotels with strong AC and backup generators for power outages
  • Morning beach time only - afternoons are brutal
  • Rain gear essential as storms hit suddenly and streets flood

All Months

November through March gives you Pattaya at its best. Temperatures hover around 27-30°C with minimal rain and lower humidity. December and January are peak season — book accommodation early and expect higher prices. April brings Songkran (Thai New Year) and the city goes absolutely wild. Water fights consume the streets for three days straight. It's chaotic fun but not ideal for beach relaxation. Hotels jack up rates during this period. May through October is rainy season, but don't let that scare you. Rain typically comes in afternoon bursts, leaving mornings and evenings clear. You'll find better hotel deals and fewer crowds. Just pack a light rain jacket. Avoid Chinese New Year (January/February) if you prefer quieter beaches. Chinese tour groups flood the city, and popular restaurants often have long waits.
