Arusha in April

Not the best time

The wettest month that most travelers should skip entirely. While prices are rock-bottom and the scenery is gorgeous, the practical challenges outweigh the benefits for most visitors.

Weather

April delivers Arusha's heaviest rains with daily afternoon downpours and high humidity. Mornings can start clear but clouds build rapidly, often resulting in spectacular thunderstorms. The landscape turns lush and green, but roads become challenging.

April Tips

  • Avoid this month for safari - many camps close and roads become impassable
  • If you do come, stay in town and explore coffee farms which are beautiful when green
  • Bring quick-dry clothes and waterproof everything important

All Months

June through October brings dry weather and the Great Migration. This is peak safari season, which means higher prices and crowded game drives. But the wildlife viewing is spectacular. January and February offer another dry window with fewer tourists and lower costs. The wildebeest calving happens in the southern Serengeti during this time. March through May brings heavy rains that turn roads to rivers. Many camps close, and the ones that stay open offer deep discounts. November can be tricky — short rains might start early or late. The weather in Arusha itself stays relatively stable year-round thanks to the altitude. Daytime temperatures hover around 75°F, dropping to 55°F at night. Pack layers regardless of when you visit.
