Crater Lake in June
Great time to visit
June is when Crater Lake truly comes alive. The full park reopens, boat tours restart, and you get those iconic blue-water views without the summer crowds hitting full force yet.
Weather
June delivers the park's grand reopening as Rim Drive finally opens completely and snow clears from most viewpoints. Days are pleasantly warm while nights stay crisp and cool. Rain becomes less frequent but afternoon thunderstorms can pop up.

All Months
July through September offers your best shot at clear roads and good weather. July brings wildflowers and full access to Rim Drive, but also peak crowds. August continues the busy season with warm days and cool nights — perfect for camping.
September is the sweet spot. Crowds thin out after Labor Day, but weather stays mild through the month. You might catch early fall colors in the surrounding forest, and morning temperatures are crisp but not frigid.
June can be beautiful if you don't mind some road closures. The north entrance often stays closed until mid-month, and parts of Rim Drive might be inaccessible. But you'll have fewer crowds and possible snow-capped peaks reflecting in the lake.
Winter transforms Crater Lake into a different world entirely. Only the south entrance stays open, and you'll need snowshoes or cross-country skis to explore. The Rim Village area offers winter programs, and seeing the lake surrounded by snow is genuinely magical — just dress for sub-zero temperatures.
