Évora in July

Not the best time

July tests your heat tolerance but rewards early risers and night owls. The city transforms into a different rhythm - quiet and shuttered during the day, alive and buzzing after sunset.

Weather

July unleashes the full force of Alentejo summer with scorching afternoons regularly hitting 35°C+. Rain is virtually non-existent. The heat radiates off the white buildings and stone streets, making midday exploration brutal.

July Tips

  • Plan indoor activities (museums, bone chapel) during 11 AM-5 PM
  • Carry water everywhere - dehydration happens fast in this dry heat
  • Book restaurants with air conditioning or terraces with misters

All Months

April through June gives you perfect weather and wildflowers covering the plains. Temperatures sit in the comfortable 20s, and you can walk all day without melting. September and October work just as well, with harvest season adding energy to the countryside. July and August turn Évora into an oven. Temperatures regularly hit 40°C, and those cobblestones become foot-burning surfaces by noon. If you must visit in summer, start early and take long afternoon breaks. Winter brings rain and surprisingly cold nights, but also solitude. The Roman Temple looks dramatic under grey skies, and restaurant fireplaces actually get used. Just pack layers — Alentejo winters are drier than the coast but still chilly.
