Great time to visit

September is many travelers' favorite month - summer weather with autumn sanity. The crowds thin slightly, but the ocean stays perfect for swimming.

Weather

September offers the best of both worlds with highs of 28°C and comfortable nights at 19°C. The first rains might appear - 2-3 days typically. The ocean stays wonderfully warm from summer heating, perfect for extended swimming.

September Tips

  • Still book ahead but not months in advance like summer
  • Ocean's at its warmest - perfect for water sports
  • Restaurant terraces become pleasant again for evening dining

All Months

April through October gives you the best weather, but each season has its personality. Late spring (April-May) brings wildflowers and comfortable temperatures around 22°C, perfect for walking the old town without sweating. Summer gets hot — July and August hit 30°C+ — but the beaches shine and everything stays open late. September and October offer the sweet spot: warm ocean, fewer crowds, and restaurant tables you can actually book. Winter isn't terrible if you're not beach-focused. January temperatures hover around 15°C, perfect for exploring Roman ruins and museums without the heat. But many beach restaurants close, and ferry schedules get reduced. The shoulder seasons (April-May, September-October) give you the best value on hotels, plus locals have more time to chat.
