September Tips

  • Last chance for guaranteed dry weather
  • Whale watching season begins offshore
  • Prices start dropping slightly from August peaks

All Months

May through October gives you the best weather – dry, sunny, and those famous trade winds keep things comfortable even when temperatures hit 28°C. This is Mauritius' winter, but winter here means perfect beach weather everywhere else. July and August get busy with European visitors escaping their summer heat, so book accommodation early. The shoulder months of May and October offer the sweet spot – great weather, fewer crowds, and better hotel rates. Avoid January through March if possible. That's cyclone season, and even if no storms hit directly, you'll deal with humidity, rain, and rough seas that make swimming less pleasant. The water temperature stays around 24°C year-round, so it's always swimmable when conditions allow. December can work if you don't mind occasional afternoon showers and higher prices during the European holiday season.
