Gulf Shores in February

Not the best time

February offers slightly better weather than January but still isn't prime beach season. The main draw is potentially catching Mardi Gras festivities, but otherwise it's another month for serious budget travelers only.

Weather

February stays chilly with daytime highs in the mid-60s and nighttime lows dipping into the upper 40s. Rain is common, and the Gulf waters remain too cold for comfortable swimming. Humidity is lower than summer months, but the air still feels damp.

February Tips

  • If Mardi Gras falls in February, book accommodations well ahead as prices spike temporarily
  • Bring warm clothes for evening walks on the beach
  • Check restaurant hours - many coastal spots still operate on winter schedules

All Months

April through May offers the sweet spot — warm enough for swimming (water hits 70°F), smaller crowds, and reasonable hotel rates. Azaleas bloom throughout Gulf State Park, and you can actually find parking at popular beaches. Summer brings peak crowds and peak prices. June through August sees water temperatures in the low 80s, but also wall-to-wall people and $300+ nightly condo rates. Book way ahead if you're coming during this window. September and October deliver the best weather. Hurricane season keeps some visitors away, but most storms miss the area. Water stays warm through October, and you'll have beaches mostly to yourself. Winter is mild but unpredictable. Some years you get 70-degree days in January. Others bring cold snaps that make beach time miserable. Most restaurants and attractions scale back hours.
