Kisumu in April
Not the best time
April is Kisumu's most challenging month for visitors with constant rain and flooding risks. Only visit if you have flexible plans and don't mind spending time indoors.
Weather
April is peak rainy season with frequent heavy downpours and high humidity. Roads can become impassable and Lake Victoria often has choppy conditions. Expect rain most days, often in intense afternoon sessions.

April Tips
- •Avoid budget accommodations near the lake - they often flood
- •Keep cash handy as ATMs may be inaccessible during floods
- •Consider postponing boat trips as lake conditions are often rough
All Months
June through September gives you the driest weather and clearest skies. The lake is calmer during these months, perfect for boat trips to Ndere Island. December through February works well too - less rain and comfortable temperatures around 25°C. March to May brings heavy rains that can flood streets and make getting around messy. October and November see shorter rains but still enough to disrupt plans. The fish are most abundant during dry seasons when the lake levels are stable. Local festivals happen year-round, but the Luo Festival in August showcases the best traditional music and dance.
