Kisumu in May
Not the best time
May is still firmly in rainy season territory with muddy conditions and transport challenges. Better than April but still not ideal unless you're specifically interested in the green, lush landscape.
Weather
May sees continued heavy rains though slightly less intense than April. Humidity remains high and muddy conditions persist around the city. Lake Victoria can still be choppy with occasional storms.

May Tips
- •Bring waterproof luggage covers
- •Choose hotels in elevated areas away from flood zones
- •Pack extra clothes as laundry takes forever to dry
All Months
June through September gives you the driest weather and clearest skies. The lake is calmer during these months, perfect for boat trips to Ndere Island. December through February works well too - less rain and comfortable temperatures around 25°C. March to May brings heavy rains that can flood streets and make getting around messy. October and November see shorter rains but still enough to disrupt plans. The fish are most abundant during dry seasons when the lake levels are stable. Local festivals happen year-round, but the Luo Festival in August showcases the best traditional music and dance.
