Luang Namtha in April
Good time to visit
The heat becomes a real factor in your daily planning. Pi Mai celebrations are fun, but you'll be sweating through your clothes by 10am, and those mountain views you came for are mostly obscured by smoke.
Weather
April cranks up the heat to a sweaty 32°C with nights offering little relief at 18°C. The burning season peaks, creating hazy conditions that obscure the beautiful mountain scenery. Humidity starts climbing as the pre-monsoon atmosphere builds, but rain is still sporadic.

April Tips
- •Start treks at 5am to beat the brutal afternoon heat
- •Carry extra water - you'll need at least 3 liters for day hikes
- •Consider staying in air-conditioned guesthouses rather than fan rooms
All Months
November through March gives you the best weather - dry, cool mornings that warm up to perfect hiking temperatures. December and January can get surprisingly chilly at night, especially in the mountains, so pack layers. April and May turn brutally hot before the rains arrive in June. The wet season lasts until October, making jungle treks muddy and river crossings dangerous. But here's the thing - some of the most spectacular waterfalls only flow during rainy season. If you can handle the humidity and occasional downpour, July and August offer fewer crowds and lusher jungle scenery.
