Luang Namtha in March
Great time to visit
Still good for trekking, but the burning season smoke can put a damper on mountain views. The heat is manageable, but you'll want to start your jungle walks earlier and take longer lunch breaks in shade.
Weather
March starts heating up with temperatures climbing to 29°C while nights stay pleasant at 15°C. The big issue is smoke from agricultural burning that can reduce visibility and irritate sensitive throats. Rain remains minimal, but humidity begins its slow climb upward.

March Tips
- •Bring a good face mask or bandana for the smoky days from slash-and-burn farming
- •Book morning activities early - afternoons get uncomfortably hot
- •Check air quality reports before planning mountain viewpoint visits
All Months
November through March gives you the best weather - dry, cool mornings that warm up to perfect hiking temperatures. December and January can get surprisingly chilly at night, especially in the mountains, so pack layers. April and May turn brutally hot before the rains arrive in June. The wet season lasts until October, making jungle treks muddy and river crossings dangerous. But here's the thing - some of the most spectacular waterfalls only flow during rainy season. If you can handle the humidity and occasional downpour, July and August offer fewer crowds and lusher jungle scenery.
