Not the best time

Monsoon season arrives with a vengeance, turning dirt roads into mud pits and making outdoor adventures dicey. The Rocket Festival is worth experiencing, but you'll spend most days dodging downpours and dealing with flooded streets.

Weather

June kicks off monsoon season with daily downpours that bring temperatures down to a more manageable 31°C, though nights remain warm at 24°C. Expect heavy rain most afternoons that can flood trails and make river crossings dangerous. Humidity hits oppressive levels between storms.

June Tips

  • Most multi-day treks are cancelled due to dangerous river levels
  • Stick to day activities you can abandon when storms hit
  • Waterproof everything - even 'waterproof' bags will fail in these deluges

All Months

November through March gives you the best weather - dry, cool mornings that warm up to perfect hiking temperatures. December and January can get surprisingly chilly at night, especially in the mountains, so pack layers. April and May turn brutally hot before the rains arrive in June. The wet season lasts until October, making jungle treks muddy and river crossings dangerous. But here's the thing - some of the most spectacular waterfalls only flow during rainy season. If you can handle the humidity and occasional downpour, July and August offer fewer crowds and lusher jungle scenery.
