Maafushi in January

Great time to visit

Peak season perfection comes with peak prices. The weather is flawless and the water crystal clear, but you'll pay premium rates and share the island with maximum crowds.

Weather

January brings the absolute best weather to Maafushi - dry, sunny days with gentle trade winds that make the 30°C heat feel perfect. Humidity sits around 70%, which is comfortable by Maldivian standards. Rain is almost non-existent, maybe a brief shower once a week.

January Tips

  • Book accommodation 4-6 months ahead - this is absolute peak season
  • Water sports conditions are perfect, but dive operators get booked up fast
  • Expect resort day trip packages to be at their most expensive

All Months

November through April delivers the sweet spot – dry skies, calm seas, and perfect snorkeling visibility. December and January see the most crowds and highest prices, but the weather stays consistently excellent. February and March offer the best value with fewer tourists but still great conditions. The southwest monsoon from May to October brings rain and choppy waters, though you'll find rock-bottom accommodation prices. Here's what locals won't tell you – even rainy season has plenty of sunny periods, and the storms usually pass quickly. Just expect some snorkeling trips to get canceled. Water temperature stays around 28°C year-round, so you won't need a wetsuit. The best underwater visibility happens during the dry months when sediment settles.
