Malmö in January
Not the best time
January in Malmö is pretty rough - cold, wet, and dark with only 7 hours of daylight. But hotel prices drop significantly and you'll have museums and cozy cafés mostly to yourself.
Weather
January hits Malmö with proper Scandinavian winter - gray, cold, and wet. Temperatures hover just above freezing, but the constant drizzle and bone-chilling wind off the Øresund make it feel much colder. Snow occasionally dusts the city, but mostly melts within hours.

All Months
May through September gives you the best of Malmö. May brings 15°C temperatures and the city shaking off winter hibernation. Outdoor cafes reopen, Ribersborg beach becomes swimmable (if you're brave), and daylight stretches until 9 PM.
July and August are peak season. Temperatures hit 22°C, everyone's in the parks, and accommodation prices spike 30%. Book ahead or you'll pay premium rates for mediocre hotels.
September might be the sweet spot. Weather stays mild around 18°C, summer crowds thin out, and restaurant terraces remain open. The light turns golden — perfect for those Instagram shots of Lilla Torg.
Winter (November-March) is brutal. Temperatures hover around freezing, daylight lasts maybe six hours, and the wind off the Öresund cuts through any jacket. But hotel rates drop by half, and you'll have museums to yourself.
Avoid late October and early November. All the downsides of winter without any Christmas charm.
