Great time to visit

September offers the best of both worlds - still warm and sunny but with fewer crowds and slightly better prices. Many consider this the ideal month to visit Naxos.

Weather

September brings relief from August's heat while maintaining excellent weather. Temperatures drop to the high twenties with occasional light rain returning. The meltemi winds calm down, making it perfect for water sports.

  • Perfect weather for the Kouros trail hike to the ancient marble quarries

All Months

May and October offer the sweet spot - warm enough for swimming, cool enough for hiking, and hotel prices drop by 40% compared to peak summer. Water temperature hits 20°C by May and stays swimmable through October. June through September brings guaranteed sunshine but also crowds and higher prices. July and August see temperatures reaching 35°C, and the meltemi winds can make beach days challenging. But this is also when everything stays open late and the island buzzes with energy. Winter shuts down most tourist infrastructure, but locals say January and February offer the most dramatic scenery with stormy seas and snow-capped mountains. Only a few tavernas stay open, and ferry schedules get reduced to 2-3 times per week. April can be hit or miss - some years bring perfect 25°C days, others stay cool and windy. Easter celebrations make it worth the gamble if you don't mind potentially chilly beach weather.
