Potosí in February
Not the best time
February's saving grace is Carnaval, but you'll pay for it with constant rain and freezing nights. The festival makes it worthwhile if you can handle the weather extremes.
Weather
February continues the wet season with slightly warmer days but still bone-chilling nights. Rain falls almost daily, turning the unpaved streets around the markets into muddy messes that make walking treacherous.

February Tips
- •Time your visit for Carnaval - it's one of Bolivia's most authentic celebrations
- •Bring waterproof boots for walking on cobblestones and muddy streets
- •Book mine tours for morning hours before afternoon rains start
All Months
May through September brings dry skies and crisp mountain air—perfect for exploring without getting soaked. July temperatures hover around 15°C during the day, dropping to near freezing at night. Pack layers. The rainy season from December to March turns cobblestone streets into slip hazards and can cancel mine tours. But here's the trade-off: fewer tourists and greener landscapes. April and October sit in the sweet spot—decent weather, manageable crowds. Avoid major Bolivian holidays when everything shuts down. The Tinku festival in early May brings traditional fighting dances but also packed accommodations. Book ahead during dry season. Most travelers underestimate how cold it gets after sunset, even in summer.
