Potosí in March
Not the best time
March offers a slight improvement from the peak wet season but still brings plenty of rain and cold. Better to wait another month or two if you have flexibility.
Weather
March marks the tail end of rainy season with fewer but still frequent downpours. Days warm up slightly but nights remain frigid, and the high altitude makes the temperature swings feel even more dramatic.

March Tips
- •Layer heavily - 15-degree temperature swings between day and night are normal
- •Visit Casa de la Moneda on rainy afternoons when outdoor sightseeing isn't possible
- •Stock up on coca leaves at Mercado Central - they help with altitude and cold
All Months
May through September brings dry skies and crisp mountain air—perfect for exploring without getting soaked. July temperatures hover around 15°C during the day, dropping to near freezing at night. Pack layers. The rainy season from December to March turns cobblestone streets into slip hazards and can cancel mine tours. But here's the trade-off: fewer tourists and greener landscapes. April and October sit in the sweet spot—decent weather, manageable crowds. Avoid major Bolivian holidays when everything shuts down. The Tinku festival in early May brings traditional fighting dances but also packed accommodations. Book ahead during dry season. Most travelers underestimate how cold it gets after sunset, even in summer.
