Thimphu in June

Not the best time

June tests your patience with relentless rain and soggy conditions. Budget travelers love the low prices, but you'll spend most days dodging downpours and watching clouds instead of mountains.

Weather

June ushers in monsoon season with a vengeance, bringing heavy rainfall and high humidity that makes everything feel damp. Rain can pour for hours, turning streets into rivers and making outdoor exploration challenging. The air turns thick and muggy.

  • Embrace indoor cultural experiences - this is monastery meditation season

All Months

March through May gives you clear mountain views and rhododendrons blooming like nature's confetti. Temperatures hover around 60-70°F during the day, perfect for walking around without sweating through your clothes. September to November is peak season for good reason – crisp air, brilliant blue skies, and comfortable temperatures. But expect crowds during Thimphu Tshechu festival in September or October. The festival is incredible – masked dances, colorful costumes, and half the country showing up – but hotel prices double and rooms disappear. Winter months get cold. Really cold. January temperatures drop to the 20s at night, though sunny days warm up nicely. Summer brings monsoon rains that turn streets into rivers and mountains into clouds. June through August means umbrellas, mud, and limited mountain views. Look, if you're coming for one of the festivals, book months ahead and expect to pay more for everything.
