Trincomalee in May
Great time to visit
May offers textbook tropical paradise weather with blazing sunshine and crystal-clear waters. The heat builds but ocean breezes keep things manageable for most outdoor activities.
Weather
May brings relentless sunshine with barely a cloud in sight for weeks. Humidity hovers at 70% while sea breezes provide relief from the building heat. The few rain showers that do arrive evaporate within minutes on the hot pavement.

All Months
April through September brings Trincomalee's dry season — perfect beach weather with minimal rainfall. The northeast monsoon hits other parts of Sri Lanka during these months, making Trinco a smart escape.
May and June offer the calmest seas for swimming and snorkeling. Water temperature stays around 28°C year-round. This is peak season for Pigeon Island trips — book snorkeling tours early.
July and August see more tourists but still feel uncrowded compared to southern beaches. Hotel prices peak during these months. The annual Koneswaram Temple festival usually falls in July — expect crowds but incredible atmosphere.
September marks the end of dry season with occasional afternoon showers. It's actually perfect weather — cooler temperatures and fewer crowds.
October through March brings the northeast monsoon. Heavy rains and rough seas make beach activities impossible. Many guesthouses close during this period. But temple visits remain rewarding year-round.
Avoid December and January entirely unless you enjoy tropical storms. The town essentially shuts down during peak monsoon months.
