Vaitape in July

Great time to visit

July is peak everything - peak crowds, peak prices, and peak perfection weather-wise. The Heiva festival makes it culturally rich, but you'll fight tourists for every sunset photo.

Weather

July offers peak dry season conditions with virtually no rain and constant sunshine. Trade winds keep temperatures comfortable despite being winter in the Southern Hemisphere. Crystal-clear skies make for incredible sunsets and perfect conditions for all water activities.

  • Traditional Polynesian dance competitions
  • Outrigger canoe races

July Tips

  • Book accommodations 6+ months ahead - this is the busiest month of the year
  • Attend Heiva festivities for authentic Polynesian culture, but expect crowds
  • Popular restaurants require reservations days in advance during festival time

All Months

April through October gives you the best weather, but here's what the brochures won't tell you: even the 'dry' season gets 10 inches of rain monthly. November through March brings cyclone season and humidity that makes you question life choices. But those months also bring 30% lower hotel rates and fewer crowds. The sweet spot? May and September. You get warm lagoon temperatures, minimal rain, and trade winds that keep the bugs away. Avoid July and August unless you enjoy sharing paradise with every honeymooner in the Northern Hemisphere. Water temperature stays around 80°F year-round, so that's never a concern. Just know that 'partly cloudy' in Bora Bora means dramatic cloud formations that actually make the photos better.
