Great time to visit

August is peak Italian summer vacation month - absolute chaos but also peak fun. The entire country heads to the coast, creating an intense but memorable beach town atmosphere.

Weather

Events & Festivals

  • Ferragosto celebrations (August 15)
  • Beach concerts and nightlife events
  • Traditional summer sagras

August Tips

  • Everything closes for Ferragosto mid-month - stock up on groceries
  • Beach clubs often require full-day bookings in advance
  • Evening is the only comfortable time for sightseeing - embrace the Italian late dinner schedule

All Months

May through September works, but each month feels different. May is perfect if you hate crowds — warm enough for the beach (water's still chilly though), restaurants open, and you'll have the promenade mostly to yourself. June and September hit the sweet spot: warm water, fewer families, and everything's open without the August insanity. July and August are peak season for good reason — water's warmest, beach clubs buzz with energy, and the nightlife actually exists. But expect crowds, higher prices, and zero chance of spontaneous dinner reservations. Here's the thing about winter: most beach clubs close, half the restaurants shut down, and it rains. A lot. The famous Carnival happens in February and March, which sounds romantic until you're standing in the rain watching papier-mâché floats. Go in shoulder season if you can swing it.
