All Months
April through September gives you the sweet spot between water volume and visibility. May and June offer the most dramatic views — the Zambezi is still swollen from rainy season, but the mist doesn't completely obscure the falls yet. You'll get soaked, but you'll see everything.
July through September brings lower water levels and clearer views. This is prime time for photography since the mist doesn't dominate every shot. The famous Devil's Pool on the Zambian side is only accessible during these low-water months — swimming on the edge of the falls isn't possible when the river is raging.
October through March is low water season. The falls split into separate streams, and you can see the rock face behind the water. It's less dramatic but more intimate. The weather is also hottest during these months — temperatures hit 35°C regularly. But this is when you can walk across parts of the riverbed that are underwater the rest of the year.
