Atlantic City in August

Great time to visit

August is peak Atlantic City - perfect beach weather, maximum crowds, and wallet-crushing prices. Worth it if you love the full summer experience.

Weather

August doubles down on July's heat with even higher humidity levels that make stepping outside feel like entering a steam room. The afternoon thunderstorms become more intense and frequent. Beach days are perfect if you can handle the sticky air.

August Tips

  • This is the most expensive month - expect $300+ for decent hotel rooms
  • The beach is perfect but arrives early to claim your spot
  • Air conditioning becomes your best friend - budget for higher indoor dining

All Months

Summer is peak season for good reason. June through September brings 70-80°F weather and the Atlantic Ocean warms up enough for actual swimming. But expect crowds and higher prices — hotel rooms double in cost. September is the sweet spot. The weather stays warm, the ocean temperature peaks, but the summer crowds thin out. Labor Day weekend is busy, but the rest of the month offers the best balance of weather and value. Winter can be brutal. January averages 40°F with Atlantic winds that cut through everything. But if you're here for the casinos and shows, rooms drop to $50-80 a night. The boardwalk stays open, though many outdoor attractions close. Spring arrives slowly. April and May see temperatures climb to the 60s, but the ocean stays cold until June. Good time for walking the boards without summer crowds.
