Atlantic City in February

Not the best time

February is Atlantic City's quietest month. Perfect if you want the casinos mostly to yourself and don't mind feeling like you're in an abandoned seaside town.

Weather

February continues the deep freeze with temperatures barely creeping above freezing most days. The nor'easters can dump serious snow, and when they don't, you get that penetrating dampness that seeps into your bones. Valentine's Day sometimes brings a brief warm spell, but don't count on it.

February Tips

  • This is peak bargain season - luxury suites go for the price of regular rooms
  • Many boardwalk attractions are closed or have reduced hours
  • The indoor shopping at The Quarter and Pier Shops saves you from the weather

All Months

Summer is peak season for good reason. June through September brings 70-80°F weather and the Atlantic Ocean warms up enough for actual swimming. But expect crowds and higher prices — hotel rooms double in cost. September is the sweet spot. The weather stays warm, the ocean temperature peaks, but the summer crowds thin out. Labor Day weekend is busy, but the rest of the month offers the best balance of weather and value. Winter can be brutal. January averages 40°F with Atlantic winds that cut through everything. But if you're here for the casinos and shows, rooms drop to $50-80 a night. The boardwalk stays open, though many outdoor attractions close. Spring arrives slowly. April and May see temperatures climb to the 60s, but the ocean stays cold until June. Good time for walking the boards without summer crowds.
