Atlantic City in March

Good time to visit

March is Atlantic City's moody teenager phase. Some promising days mixed with plenty of 'why did I come here' moments.

Weather

March teases you with glimpses of spring before slapping you back to reality. Temperatures swing wildly - 18°C one day, 2°C the next. The rain picks up as winter storms transition to spring showers, and that ocean breeze still has serious bite.

Events & Festivals

  • March Madness viewing parties at sportsbooks

March Tips

  • Pack layers - serious layers - because the weather can't make up its mind
  • Spring break hasn't hit yet, so hotel deals are still solid
  • The Steel Pier starts weekend operations if weather cooperates

All Months

Summer is peak season for good reason. June through September brings 70-80°F weather and the Atlantic Ocean warms up enough for actual swimming. But expect crowds and higher prices — hotel rooms double in cost. September is the sweet spot. The weather stays warm, the ocean temperature peaks, but the summer crowds thin out. Labor Day weekend is busy, but the rest of the month offers the best balance of weather and value. Winter can be brutal. January averages 40°F with Atlantic winds that cut through everything. But if you're here for the casinos and shows, rooms drop to $50-80 a night. The boardwalk stays open, though many outdoor attractions close. Spring arrives slowly. April and May see temperatures climb to the 60s, but the ocean stays cold until June. Good time for walking the boards without summer crowds.
