July and August see temperatures soar above 35°C, making medina exploration exhausting. The narrow alleys trap heat, and many locals flee to cooler mountain towns. Hotels jack up prices despite the uncomfortable conditions. Ramadan affects the city's rhythm regardless of season. Restaurants close during daylight hours, and the evening iftar (breaking of the fast) creates a special atmosphere but limits dining options for visitors.
