Klaipėda in February

Not the best time

February might be Klaipėda's least appealing month for visitors. The weather stays consistently unpleasant and many attractions remain closed or limited.

Weather

February continues the winter theme with slightly longer days but similar brutal conditions. Snow mixes with freezing rain regularly, and the harbor area gets particularly windswept. The Baltic remains gray and choppy throughout the month.

February Tips

  • Book accommodations well ahead - many smaller hotels close for maintenance this month
  • The Sea Museum operates on winter hours with limited outdoor exhibits
  • Cafes in the Old Town become essential warm-up spots every few blocks

All Months

May through September gives you the warmest weather and longest days, but each month has its personality. June brings white nights and fewer crowds — sunset happens after 10 PM, giving you endless golden hours for photography. July and August mean festival season and packed restaurants, plus water temperatures hit 18°C if you're brave enough for Baltic swimming. September offers my favorite compromise: warm days, cool nights, and locals returning from summer holidays. The Sea Festival in late July draws 300,000 visitors, transforming the sleepy port into a massive party. Book accommodation months ahead if you're coming then. Winter is brutal — temperatures drop to -5°C and daylight lasts maybe 7 hours. But if you can handle the cold, you'll have the city to yourself and hotel prices drop by 40%.
