Klaipėda in January
Not the best time
January in Klaipėda is for the dedicated - you'll have the Old Town's cobblestones mostly to yourself, but the weather is genuinely harsh. Only come if you love moody winter seascapes and don't mind bundling up.
Weather
January hits Klaipėda with proper Baltic winter - expect temperatures hovering around freezing with frequent snow and sleet. The Baltic Sea moderates the cold slightly, but winds off the water make it feel much colder. You'll get maybe 6-7 hours of weak daylight.

January Tips
- •Pack serious winter gear - the wind off the Baltic cuts right through you
- •Most tourist attractions have reduced hours, check before heading out
- •Hotel prices drop significantly but some seaside restaurants close entirely
All Months
May through September gives you the warmest weather and longest days, but each month has its personality. June brings white nights and fewer crowds — sunset happens after 10 PM, giving you endless golden hours for photography. July and August mean festival season and packed restaurants, plus water temperatures hit 18°C if you're brave enough for Baltic swimming. September offers my favorite compromise: warm days, cool nights, and locals returning from summer holidays. The Sea Festival in late July draws 300,000 visitors, transforming the sleepy port into a massive party. Book accommodation months ahead if you're coming then. Winter is brutal — temperatures drop to -5°C and daylight lasts maybe 7 hours. But if you can handle the cold, you'll have the city to yourself and hotel prices drop by 40%.
