Lahaina in September

Great time to visit

September marks the return to sanity in Lahaina. Heat becomes manageable, crowds disappear after Labor Day, and prices drop. One of the year's best months for balancing good weather with fewer tourists.

Weather

September brings welcome relief as temperatures start dropping and humidity becomes more bearable. Trade winds pick up slightly, making outdoor activities more pleasant. Still very little rain, but the oppressive heat breaks.

September Tips

  • Great month as summer crowds thin out but weather stays warm
  • Book accommodations early - many locals take vacation now
  • Perfect conditions for sunset sailing from Lahaina Harbor

All Months

April through June gives you the sweet spot – fewer crowds, lower prices, and perfect weather. Hotel rates drop significantly after Easter, and you'll actually find parking spaces in town. Ocean temperatures hover around 78 degrees, ideal for snorkeling at Molokini Crater. September through November offers another excellent window. Hurricane season technically runs through November, but storms rarely impact Maui directly. The trade winds keep temperatures comfortable, and you'll avoid both summer crowds and winter whale watching masses. Winter brings humpback whales to Maui's waters, making December through March prime time for whale watching tours. But expect crowds, especially around holidays. Hotel rates spike during Christmas and New Year's weeks – we're talking $600+ per night at mid-range properties. The upside? Surf's up on the north shore, and temperatures rarely exceed 85 degrees.
