Pisa in January
Not the best time
January is Pisa's quietest month with the Leaning Tower practically to yourself. But the cold, wet weather makes outdoor sightseeing miserable unless you're prepared for it.
Weather
January brings cold, damp weather to Pisa with frequent rain showers and occasional fog rolling in from the Arno River. Temperatures hover just above freezing at night and barely reach double digits during the day. The humidity stays high, making it feel colder than the actual temperature.

January Tips
- •Pack waterproof shoes - the cobblestones around Piazza dei Miracoli get slippery
- •Many restaurants close for winter holidays until mid-January
- •Hotel rates drop 40% from summer peaks but heating costs extra in older buildings
All Months
April through June gives you perfect weather without summer crowds. Temperatures hover around 20°C, and you can actually get decent photos of the tower without fighting hordes of tourists.
September and October are golden months. The summer heat breaks, but restaurants and attractions stay open. Plus, university students return, bringing energy back to the bars and cafes.
Skip July and August unless you enjoy sweating through 35°C heat while queuing for an hour to climb the tower. Crowds peak during these months, and many locals flee to the coast.
Winter works if you're chasing budget prices and don't mind gray skies. Hotels drop rates by 40%, but some restaurants close, and the tower climb gets cancelled in bad weather. December through February sees frequent rain.
