Podgorica in January
Not the best time
January is Podgorica at its grittiest - cold, wet, and sleepy. But hotel prices drop to their lowest, and you'll have cafes and museums mostly to yourself.
Weather
January hits Podgorica with cold, damp air and frequent rain showers. Temperatures hover around freezing at night, though days can reach a mild 10°C. Expect gray skies and high humidity that makes the cold feel more biting than the thermometer suggests.

January Tips
- •Pack waterproof boots - sidewalks flood easily during winter rains
- •Many restaurants close early or have reduced hours, so eat lunch before 3pm
- •Hotel heating can be inconsistent - bring layers for indoor use
All Months
April through June gives you the best weather without the coastal crowds. Temperatures hit 22°C, perfect for walking and day trips. The Skadar Lake water lilies bloom in May.
September and October work beautifully. The heat breaks, but you can still swim at Skadar Lake. October brings wine harvest season – some of the region's best festivals happen then.
Summer gets hot. July and August regularly hit 35°C, and the city empties as locals head to the coast. But air conditioning is standard in hotels, and evening temperatures drop to comfortable levels.
Winter is mild but wet. December through February sees frequent rain, though snow is rare. Many restaurants reduce their hours.
