Richmond in July
Not the best time
July is hot, humid, and uncomfortable for extended outdoor time. Good month for indoor attractions and air-conditioned museums, but not ideal for walking tours or outdoor dining.
Weather
July brings Richmond's peak summer heat with oppressive humidity that makes 90°F feel like 100°F. Daily thunderstorms are common in late afternoon. The air feels thick and sticky from morning until night.

All Months
April and May offer perfect weather and blooming dogwoods throughout the city. September and October bring comfortable temperatures and fall colors along the James River. Summer gets sticky — July and August see temperatures in the 90s with humidity that makes walking feel like swimming. But summer also means outdoor concerts at Maymont Park and river activities. Winter rarely sees snow, but January and February feel gray and damp. Spring comes early here, usually by mid-March. Fall festivals happen throughout October, including the Richmond Folk Festival and Oktoberfest celebrations. Hotel prices peak during VCU graduation in May and when the Richmond Marathon takes over downtown in November. The sweet spot? Late April through early June, then September through mid-November. You'll get good weather without the summer crowds or winter dreariness.
