Skopje in December
Not the best time
December brings winter's return with snow and freezing temperatures. The holiday atmosphere is charming, but prepare for serious cold and limited outdoor activities.
Weather
December brings winter weather with temperatures hovering around freezing. Snow becomes common, especially after mid-month, and gray skies dominate. The old bazaar and Stone Bridge look atmospheric in the snow, but walking conditions can be treacherous.

- •Pack serious winter clothing - December weather can turn harsh quickly
All Months
April through June gives you perfect weather without the summer heat that can hit 35°C. The city comes alive after the harsh Balkan winter, and café terraces reopen along the Vardar.
September and October might be even better. Temperatures hover around 20°C, summer crowds disappear, and the surrounding mountains show off their autumn colors. Plus, restaurant terraces stay busy until late October.
Winter (December-February) sees temperatures drop to -5°C, but Christmas markets pop up in Macedonia Square. Hotels cut rates in half, and you'll have the Old Bazaar mostly to yourself. Just pack layers.
Skip July and August unless you love sweating through sightseeing. The concrete and marble of the city center creates a heat island effect. Locals flee to Lake Ohrid, leaving restaurants with reduced hours.
Look, any time works if you're on a budget. Even peak summer hotel rates rarely exceed €60 per night for decent places.
