Banda Islands in December
Not the best time
December sees the return of monsoon conditions making boat travel difficult and diving limited. The holidays bring some visitors but weather challenges outweigh the festive atmosphere.
Weather
December ushers in monsoon season with increasing rainfall and rough seas. Humidity jumps back up to 80% and storms can be intense. The weather becomes unpredictable with periods of calm mixed with heavy downpours.

December Tips
- •Many dive operators reduce schedules due to rough seas
- •Some smaller guesthouses close for maintenance
- •Flights to Ambon may be delayed due to weather
All Months
April through October brings the driest weather and calmest seas. May and June offer the best conditions — minimal rain, light winds, and excellent underwater visibility. July and August see more visitors, though 'crowded' here means maybe 50 tourists total. September and October can be perfect, with warm water and clear skies. But weather patterns have become less predictable in recent years. November through March brings monsoon rains and rough seas. Ferry services get canceled regularly, and diving conditions deteriorate. Many guesthouses close during this period. If you're stuck due to weather, embrace it — there are worse places to be stranded than a tropical island with 400-year-old nutmeg trees.
