Kampot in August

Not the best time

Still deep in monsoon misery but Pchum Ben brings some cultural interest. Most visitors find the constant dampness and flooding too much to handle.

Weather

Continued heavy rains with frequent flooding in the old town. Humidity maxes out and clothes never fully dry. Brief morning sunshine before afternoon deluges become the daily pattern.

  • Mosquito season peaks - DEET is essential
  • Some restaurants close entirely during heavy rain periods

All Months

November through March delivers perfect weather — dry, sunny, and temperatures in the comfortable 70s-80s. This is peak season, so book accommodations ahead and expect higher prices. April gets hot. Really hot. Temperatures push into the 90s with oppressive humidity. But you'll have the place mostly to yourself, and room rates drop by half. The rainy season (May-October) brings afternoon downpours that cool things down but can flood the streets. Some guesthouses close, and boat trips get cancelled. But the countryside turns emerald green, and you'll see Kampot at its most atmospheric — just pack an umbrella.
