Kasane in March

Not the best time

March offers the first hint that the brutal wet season might actually end. You'll still sweat plenty, but wildlife starts concentrating near permanent water sources again.

Weather

March starts cooling slightly but humidity hangs around like a wet blanket you can't shake off. Late afternoon storms still rumble through 2-3 times per week. The Chobe starts dropping but remains swollen and brown from the rainy season.

March Tips

  • This is malaria season's peak - don't skip the antimalarials and sleep under nets
  • Roads improve by month's end, but early March can still strand you
  • Pack layers - mornings feel cool after months of intense heat

All Months

May through October is prime time. The dry season means animals concentrate around the Chobe River, creating incredible viewing opportunities. July and August see massive elephant herds - we're talking 500+ animals at a time coming down to drink. But it's also peak season, so expect higher prices and more tourists. September and October get seriously hot - 40°C days aren't uncommon - but the wildlife viewing is phenomenal. November through April is wet season. The landscape turns green and beautiful, but animals disperse inland where there's water everywhere. Many camps close, and those that stay open offer big discounts. If you can handle some rain and fewer animals, it's actually quite lovely. Just know that some roads become impassable.
