Punakha in April

Great time to visit

April represents peak season for good reason - perfect weather, green landscapes, and blooming flowers. But you'll pay premium prices and fight crowds at major sites.

Weather

April delivers ideal conditions with warm days, cool nights, and minimal rainfall. The rice terraces fill with water creating mirror-like reflections of the surrounding hills. Humidity remains comfortable throughout the month.

April Tips

  • Reserve accommodation 3-4 months in advance
  • Early morning visits to Punakha Dzong avoid both crowds and heat
  • Rent a bicycle to explore the valley - roads are dry and perfect for cycling

All Months

March through May brings rhododendron blooms and clear mountain views, but also spring crowds at major sites. April hits the sweet spot — warm days, cool nights, and fewer tour groups than peak season. September through November delivers the year's best weather. Crisp mornings, warm afternoons, and crystal-clear views of the Himalayas. October sees the most visitors, so book accommodations early. Winter (December-February) means cold nights and limited heating, but also empty temples and cheaper rooms. The dzong looks spectacular dusted with snow, and you'll have most trails to yourself. Avoid June through August unless you love leeches and daily downpours. Monsoon season turns trekking trails into mud slides and blocks mountain views with thick clouds.
