Punakha in May
Great time to visit
May offers the last hurrah of excellent weather before monsoons hit. The increasing afternoon showers keep some tourists away, making it a solid compromise month.
Weather
May brings warmer temperatures with increasing humidity as the pre-monsoon season approaches. Afternoon thunderstorms become more frequent, though they're usually brief and dramatic. Mornings remain clear and pleasant.

- •Hotel prices start dropping slightly as peak season ends
All Months
March through May brings rhododendron blooms and clear mountain views, but also spring crowds at major sites. April hits the sweet spot — warm days, cool nights, and fewer tour groups than peak season.
September through November delivers the year's best weather. Crisp mornings, warm afternoons, and crystal-clear views of the Himalayas. October sees the most visitors, so book accommodations early.
Winter (December-February) means cold nights and limited heating, but also empty temples and cheaper rooms. The dzong looks spectacular dusted with snow, and you'll have most trails to yourself.
Avoid June through August unless you love leeches and daily downpours. Monsoon season turns trekking trails into mud slides and blocks mountain views with thick clouds.
